In olden days, when locals of Saint Quentin Lamotte wanted to send a letter, they would have had to deliver it to Eu and if they were expecting an answer, they had to go back and retrieve it in Eu. However since the creation of rural postmen in 1846, the town was served by various post offices : Gamaches before 1852 ; Eu from 1852 to 1869 and Woincourt from 1869 to 1872.
On the complaint of residents who were receiving mail too late, the municipality asked that the post office service be provided again by the office of the town of Eu, which was the case from 1872 to 1894. Then from 1894 to 1912 it was in Béthencourt sur Mer, until the creation of a postman-receiver office in the commune.
The commune had already undergone some changes with the installation of a public telephone booth in 1906.
An auxiliary postman, detached from the postal office in Béthencourt, provided the service in Saint-Quentin-Lamotte ; the sorting of mail correspondence was done in a café.
This way of proceeding raised criticisms and several complaints on behalf of the inhabitants, the mayor, Mr Fruictier, proposed in 1909 to establish a postman-receiver’s office in the commune.
This proposal was unanimously rejected.
It was not until 29th May 1911 that M. Léon Chauvin again proposed the vote of this office to the municipal council.
It was in October 1912 that this office was created.
